Adding helpful plugins to the list is a way to help the WordPress community. If you think you’ve created a WordPress plugin like WooCommerce pre-order that is useful to others, you should consider adding it to the WordPress plugin directory. You, as an installer, will have many advantages.
The first place where many users look for the best suitable plugins is WordPress Plugin Directory. Adding a link to the instruction makes it easier for users to find and build trust in you as a developer.
You don’t have to pay for the bandwidth required to download your plugin, and the list automatically checks how many people have downloaded and notifies you when an update is available.
The file will also help you maintain the plugin. Users will be able to rate your installation, submit feedback information and reports, and use it in a support forum.
However, let’s look at adding your plugin to the WordPress Plugin Directory.
Create a ‘Read Me’ file
The initial step will include creating a Read Me file for your plugin. It will appear in the list on your plugin page and require proper configuration.
You need to read me file to explain how the syntax for the WordPress plugin readme works. The first line – “Plugin Name” – will appear in the WordPress plugin directory as the name of your plugin.
The next line is “Contributors.” Users’ IDs will be responsible for the management of your plugin. If you don’t have a username yet, you’ll need to create a free WordPress.org account.
The at least required and tested until fields refer to the versions of WordPress that your plugin works with. A stable tag is a version of your plugin.
You can also leave the License field. Then it would be best if you changed the Description section to describe what your plugin does.
After editing your plugin readme file, remember to save your changes. It is also recommended to parse the file with the official Readme validator and discuss the issues identified. Finally, you need to click on the installation folder and create a zip file.
Add Plugin to the Directory
Your file is now ready to review the WordPress.org plugin. To add an add-on, visit the Add-on page. You are logged in to download and submit your plugin for review. To select a plugin for a ZIP file, click Select File and then click Upload.
The WordPress.org plugin review team then checks for common errors and safety in the add-on code. You will receive an email from the plugin after approval.
The purpose of the email is to refer to the Subversion (SVN) repository where your plugin would be hosted. You must use this link when submitting the installation.
Subversion is an open-source data management system. It allows users to make changes to files and folders by saving changes, managing different translations, and collaborating with other users.
You need an SVN client installed on your computer to install your plugin. After installation, you’ll need to open Versions and check your copy of the WordPress Plug-n Repository. Click the New bookmark deposit button to do so.
A window will open, showing that you must first specify the icon. You can name it according to your plugin. After naming, you also need to add the SVN repository URL to your WordPress plugin. You may leave blank for the username and password.
Now you need to click the “Create” button. The translation will contact your repository and deliver a full copy to your computer. Next, click on the store’s name in the survey and select “Stool.”
You will be prompted to name the file and choose where to store it on your computer. You can use the same box as the add button and click the play button to continue.
Versions of the program create the necessary files for your plugin on your computer. You can view your plugin or search the search engine.
Now you need to copy the installation files and paste them into the root directory of your repository. Now that your plugins have been added to Subversion, you are ready to load. To do this, schedule changes to the local list and the default command.
If you need to edit the files, you must copy them on the spot. When the changes are complete, click the confirm icon to sync your WordPress plugin with the folder.
We can now add images and screenshots to the WordPress plugins file. These must follow the standard naming conventions and must be loaded using Subversion.
